Primate watch safari in Uganda – Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest and gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest

Uganda is home to several primate species and the Primate watch safari gives you an opportunity to see the famous two great apes; Mountain gorillas and Chimpanzees. This Primate watch safari will bring you face to face with these great apes in the rain forests of Kibale national park and the Bwindi impenetrable national park for chimpanzee trekking and gorilla trekking respectively.

Permits, Airline flights and Lodge Accommodation payments are mostly non-refundable. Because of this we will be required to take payment in full before we can confirm your booking. Payments can be made by international bank transfer to our $US account.

For conservation reasons, only a limited number of Gorilla Tracking Permits are available per day. We will do our best to accommodate your wishes but there may be some need for flexibility should permits not be available on the days you wish to travel.
Prices are based on a double room or twin-share basis. “Single Supplement” prices available on request

Please note that the rates mentioned are calculated with the current published UWA rates. The conservation fees of Uganda Wildlife Authority that we use are set prices for that run for a period of two years. Therefore, there is a possibility that UWA rates will increase which could affect fees for park entrance, ranger fees, chimpanzee permits and gorilla permits.

    DAY 1:

    Upon arrival, your driver/guide will be waiting to collect you and take you on a short drive to the Boma Guest House for an overnight stay.

    DAY 2:

    After breakfast your safari guide will transfer you through Mubende arriving at your accommodation for a late lunch. Alternatively your guide can arrange for you to have lunch at Fortportal. In the evening there will be a visit to Bigodi Wetlands.
    Overnight Chimpanzee Forest Guest House.
    Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner


    DAY 3:

    After breakfast you will be transferred to the forest for a half day Forest walk. The walk in the forest by experienced guides takes you to an area where a troop of chimpanzees will be feeding. Be on the look out for the Red Colubus(an endemic species only found in this forest in Uganda). Other primates include, Grey Cheeked Mangabeys and others. In the afternoon, there will be a village walk.

    DAY 4:

    After breakfast you will drive to Bwndi Impenetrable Forest driving past Queen Elizabeth National park. You are likely to see Uganda Kob, Elephant, Waterbuck, Cape Buffalo and may be lucky to find the tree climbing Lions along the main road relaxing in fig trees. You will arrive in Bwindi late in the afternoon.
    Dinner and overnight Engagi Lodge.

    DAY 5:

    After breakfast you will be taken to the park headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla tracking etiquettes. The rangers and guides will then take you through the thick and steep vegetation until the gorillas are located. Once located, you will be allowed 1 hour with the gorillas. After the trek return to the park headquarters where you guide will be waiting for you to transfer back to the lodge.

    DAY 6:

    This morning you will depart for Lake Mburo National Park. Your drive will take you through the scenic route known as “Little Switzerland” and Ankole country. Enjoy an afternoon game drive.
    Overnight Mantana Tented Camp.
    Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner


    DAY 7:

    After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a final morning game drive as you leave Lake Mburo. Return to Entebbe or Kampala.
